Alex Gibney

Director Alex Gibney is called “the most important documentarian of our time”. He has a signature cinematic style that lends itself to penetrating, gripping, and deeply insightful documentaries. 

His work has been the recipient of an Academy Award, multiple Emmy Awards, several Peabody Awards, a Grammy Award, the DuPont-Columbia Award, The Independent Spirit Award and The Writers Guild Awards. He is also the recipient of the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the News & Doc Emmys. 

With an impressive range that spans hard-hitting political exposés to deep dives into pop culture, Gibney has created thought-provoking and perceptive films such as «Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room», «The Crime of the Century» on the American opioid crisis», «Taxi to the Dark Side», «Forever Prisoner», and « In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon ». 

In 2024, «Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos», Gibney’s two-part series on David Chase and the iconic series, debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in and is now available on HBO Max. The highly anticipated feature documentary, «The Bibi Files» on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September and was released later the same year. 

Gibney is currently in production on the documentary «Musk» about the tech giant Elon Musk and «Knife», a tentatively titled documentary inspired by Salman Rushdie’s memoir «Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder».
