Doug Mills

Doug Mills is the senior photographer in Washington for The New York Times, specializing in coverage of the White House. With a career spanning four decades, he has photographed every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan.

Before joining The Times in 2002, Mills spent 15 years as chief photographer for The Associated Press in Washington, following four years at United Press International. Throughout his career, he has covered multiple presidential campaigns and major political events, earning two Pulitzer Prizes, one in 1993 for team coverage of the Clinton/Gore campaign and another for investigative reporting on the Monica Lewinsky affair. In recognition of his work, the White House Correspondents’ Association honored him with the "Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists" in both 2020 and 2023.

Beyond politics, Mills has an extensive background in sports photography, having covered 16 Olympics, multiple Super Bowls, World Series, and major golf tournaments, including the Masters. His work has also been recognized by the White House News Photographers Association, which has twice named him "Photographer of the Year".

Born in Greensboro, N.C., and raised in Arlington, Va., Mills continues to reside in Arlington with his wife, where they raised their daughters.
