Kathleen Hennessey is the Editor and Senior Vice President of the Minnesota Star Tribune, overseeing the largest newsroom in the American Midwest. She joined the Star Tribune after three years at The New York Times, where she served as a deputy politics editor.
Previously, she spent much of her career in Washington, D.C., covering national politics, Congress and the Obama White House for the Tribune newspapers and The Associated Press, before becoming AP’s White House Editor and later Deputy Washington Chief, helping lead coverage of President Donald Trump’s first term.
Hennessey also brings extensive statehouse and local reporting experience from Sacramento, Carson City and Las Vegas, where she reported on state politics, casinos and civic life.
She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Boston College. Kathleen lives in Minneapolis with her husband and three sons.
