Media Bar at Hotel Norge
Just weeks after stepping down as BBC Director-General, Tim Davie comes to Grieghallen to reflect on an eventful—and at times turbulent—tenure leading one of the world’s leading media organizations.
He announced his resignation in November following controversy surrounding the documentary series Panorama’s editing of President Donald Trump’s speech ahead of the 2021 storming of the US Capitol. The case sparked wider debate about editorial standards, internal controls and trust in public service media. Trump later filed a lawsuit against the BBC.
Davie led the BBC through a period of political pressure, competition from streaming platforms and rapid technological change. Earlier this year, he joined media leaders from Sky News, The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Financial Times to launch an initiative to protect journalism from unlicensed AI “scraping” and set standards for responsible AI use.
What does it take to lead a media institution like the BBC in times of crisis and constant change? In conversation with TV 2’s foreign affairs correspondent Hilde Gran, Davie will reflect on the lessons he has learned, discuss the key challenges facing journalism today, and share his views on how public service media can remain relevant and maintain trust in an increasingly polarised media landscape.
