Journalism: Squeezed between AI and content creators?

AI scrapes, summarises, and repackages journalism into increasingly more efficient formats. At the same time, content creators and news influencers gain traction with personal, strong, and relatable voices. What will happen to news media when being squeezed between optimized and automated content on the one hand, and humans who have established loyal relationships with audiences on the other?

In this keynote, senior research associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Nic Newman, analyses the most important disruptions and developments shaping the news industry. In conversation with Professor in Media and Communications, Vilde Schanke Sundet (Oslo Met), he discusses how AI and influencers might challenge mainstream media, including their business models, democracy, and trust among audiences.

Newman will also present a new report, launched during the Media Days, on how leading actors in the media industry consider video podcast as a format of the future.
