Nic Newman is a Senior Research Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University where he has been the lead author of the annual Digital News Report, the world’s largest on-going study of consumer behaviour around news, for the last fourteen years (2012-25). He also authors an influential annual report on media and technology trends and has published recent stand-alone research on news creators, paying for news, the changing nature of social media, and several reports on on-demand audio.
Before the Reuters Institute, Nic spent 20 years as a journalist, mainly at the BBC. He was a founding member of the BBC News Website in 1997 where he led international news coverage for five years before heading up technology and product development for BBC News for almost a decade. He helped introduce innovations such as the first BBC News apps, live blogs and podcasting.
